Installing RHEL 3 on a IBM xSeries 366 - SAS Controller Driver Disk required

Hi,

I just joined this list and saw this thread.  The answer is yes.. I have
RHEL 3 installing on the x366.  If I recall, 2 things were necessary...

First, you need an install image based on (minimum) U5.  However, the
disk controller installed in not stable, but sufficient for
installation.

Obviously, next you'll need to replace the driver with the one you will
build from source located on the ServeRaid 8.0 CD.  I built a package to
install/replace the driver in the ReadHat kernel (which is done during
the system kickstart).

Here is output from /proc.  I just confirmed that the driver on the CD
is this one list here (ver 1.1-5[2386]).  I also recommend you install
the arcconf CLI utility.

: uts@(protected); cat /proc/scsi/aacraid/0
Adaptec Raid Controller 1.1-5[2386]
Vendor: IBM Model: ServeRAID 8i
kernel: 5.0-0[7777]
monitor: 5.0-0[7777]
bios: 5.0-0[7777]
serial: 1442e7

RHEL 4 64bit is wholly another quagmire!  Yes it installs, but /dev/
entries are missing and the CLI tools don't work (related to /dev/
entries I'm sure.
