I could be wrong, since I've been using 2.6 kernels instead, but
aren't make dep and make clean deprecated? Please tell me if this
isn't the case, but I thought now the only makes you had to do were:
make mrproper
make config
make bzImage
make modules_install

...

Sorry for possibly getting off topic... I don't think this caused your
network driver error, anyway...
