Thanks for this idea, but we need to keep our releases fairly stable. We generate our own kickstart tree with internal version numbering. In this case, I'm trying to get our internal release working with this new workstation.
We've patched initrd for our PXE environment so the NIC works there. Then we run a hack postinstall "dmidecode | grep "HP xw4300 Workstation" && rpm -i tg3-2.4.21*.rpm" command which installs a tg3.o in /lib/modules/2.4.21-32.0.1EL/updates/tg3.o.
This way we're running real U5 on all our systems, except the xw4300 has the patched tg3.o as well. It's a hack since we're skipping U6 internally and waiting for U7. The older xw4200 workstations are not shipping from our vendor any longer, so we have to get the xw4300's working.
