I've also become a fan of denyhosts.
http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net/


It's in Fedora Extras.  It scans /var/log/secure every 30 seconds
looking for ssh dictionary attacks, and creates /etc/hosts.deny entries
that it expires after 4 weeks.  No kernel modules needed, and quite
configurable.
