I checked the logwatch for my server and I noticed this in there.

Connections Rejected due to load average::
   Load Avg 14: 4 Times(s)
   Load Avg 15: 3 Times(s)
   Load Avg 16: 6 Times(s)
   Load Avg 17: 6 Times(s)
   Load Avg 18: 3 Times(s)
   Load Avg 19: 5 Times(s)
   Load Avg 20: 5 Times(s)
   Load Avg 21: 3 Times(s)
   Load Avg 22: 17 Times(s)

So I would guess the load average has skyrocketed to 22 and it just
doesn't want to respond to anything anymore.

Where can I check to see what's spiking my load average? Leave top
running on the server in a terminal?

Thanks.
