Looks like you lost the device node for the apm_bios. To recreate that device
node, use :
# mknod apm_bios c 10 134
Then reboot and see if that works. It'd also be nice if you could post your
/etc/modules.conf file.

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. I tried the command but no effect.
I am getting still the same error message and same symptom.
Followed is the content of the /etc/modules.conf on this system
