I'm running Fedora Core 4 but my situation is similar to yours. I have a mailx man page, but it is part of the man-pages RPM. There is no mailx executable. Use "mail" instead. "man mail" for more information.
BTW, for a friendlier mail client, use "mutt", "elm", or "pine". "mail" (and later, "mailx") was the first ever mail client for UNIX, and is none too friendly.
